November 2021

We utilise the best breeding technology optimally for the size of our stud flock. Every few years we undertake an Embryo Transfer program. We flushed 71 viable embryos from our best seven available ewes and used four different Sires from other flocks, in this year’s program.

We also conducted a modest AI program at the same time. We try to utilise the best progeny from these programs naturally in our flock to obtain the best genetic gains before employing these tools again. The best ram progeny are mated naturally to extend the fresh genetics.

The previous AI/ET program, for the 2019 drop, gave us a top Sire that we have used extensively, and he also has progeny in an evaluation trial in Victoria. The weaners here are very exciting.

Another round of shearing has shown both improvements in wool style and characteristics, as well as the impact of the seasonal conditions earlier this year.
