Early in the month we weaned lambs. Those from multiple births showed the effects of a shortage of feed but have boomed after being moved to fresh pastures.
This month was busy preparing for our On-Property Sale, where we offered stud rams, registered stud ewes and commercial ewe hoggets. 69 rams were sold to $3600 and averaged $1423.
Our sale result was somewhat disappointing for us, a cold wet few months had affected feed quality, and because of our determination not to falsely feed our sheep, they showed that reality. Seeing photos of them post delivery has shown what warmer weather can do.
Ultimately though, we sold more than 100 Dohne rams for the season.
At the end of the month, we had a display and presence at the Yorke Peninsula Field Days, Paskeville. It was great to speak with clients and meet with many others looking at the Dohne option.
